This first phase lays the foundation for the wholistic program in store in the following three phases. Phase One cost is $7.5 million, with an estimated construction timeline of 10 months from groundbreaking.
PHASE 2
The Food Hub
The Food Hub is essential to solving the problem of making food more readily available for people living in food deserts, as well as everyone else buying produce that says it’s local – when in reality it often isn’t. Know were your food is grown and produced without paying a premium that comes with transporting food from hundreds of miles away. The Food Hub acts as a conduit to bring together and build relationships with farmers across the city and state, while also working directly with The Urban Farm. Through the work of The Urban Farm and The Market program, that time and community establishes a foundation for a thriving food distribution center.
PHASE 3
The COMMUNITY HUB
Food Home Community Hub is the people who will be served. Community engagement will be the driving force to ensure all other components of the Food Home are successful. The Food Home will have a Training and Event Center, where the community can partake in health assessments, cooking classes, monthly Food On The Move Events, summer outdoor concerts, and a variety of continuing educational opportunities. Food Home will be a place where community is built.
PHASE 4
The FOOD Market
This food market is designed to be a model. A model for an urban grocery store that can succeed in a food desert. We believe the best chance for success for a small grocery store is with entrepreneurs who are committed to the neighborhood, with connection to a food hub that is helping make fresh produce and local product more affordable and more accessible. The Food Market is part of an ecosystem of food.
